Grand Bargain - Details and Explanation
Stupendous Bargain - Details and Explanation The term stupendous deal is utilized to depict an expected understanding between President Barack Obama and congressional pioneers in late 2012 on the best way to check spending and pay off the national obligation while keeping away from steep programmed spending cuts known as sequestration or the monetary precipice set to occur the next year to the absolute most significant projects in the United States. The possibility of an amazing deal had been around since 2011 however the genuine potential rose after the 2012 presidential political decision, in which voters returned a considerable lot of similar pioneers to Washington, including Obama and a portion of his fiercest pundits in Congress. The approaching monetary emergency joined with a captivated House and Senate gave high dramatization in the last a long time of 2012 as officials attempted to stay away from the sequestration cuts. Subtleties of the Grand Bargain The term stupendous deal was utilized on the grounds that it would be a bipartisan understanding between the Democratic president and Republican pioneers in the House of Representatives, who had been gridlocked on strategy proposition during his first term in the White House. Among the projects that could be focused for generous cuts in an amazing deal are the purported qualification programs: Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. Democrats who opposed such slices would consent to them if Republicans, consequently, approve higher charges on certain high-pay workers much like the Buffett Rule would have forced. History of the Grand Bargain The stupendous deal on obligation decrease previously developed during Obamas first term in the White House. Be that as it may, dealings over the subtleties of such an arrangement unwound in the mid year of 2011 and never started vigorously until after the 2012 presidential political decision. The differences in the first round of exchanges allegedly were the request by Obama and the Democrats on a specific degree of new duty income. Republicans, especially progressively preservationist individuals from Congress, were said to have enthusiastically contradicted raising assessments past a specific sum, apparently some $800 million worth of new income. In any case, following Obamas re-appointment, House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio seemed to flag a readiness to acknowledge higher charges as an end-result of slices to privilege programs. So as to gather Republican help for new incomes, the President must be happy to decrease spending and shore up the privilege programs that are the essential drivers of our obligation, Boehner told columnists following the political decision. Weââ¬â¢re closer than anybody might suspect to the minimum amount required authoritatively to complete duty change. Restriction to the Grand Bargain Numerous Democrats and nonconformists communicated distrust over Boehners offer, and rehashed their resistance to cuts in Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. They contended that Obamas definitive triumph permitted him a specific command on keeping up the countries social projects and security nets. They additionally guaranteed the cuts in blend with the lapse of both the Bush-time tax breaks and finance tax reductions in 2013 could send the nation once more into a downturn. The liberal monetary Paul Krugman, writing in The New York Times, contended that Obama ought not effectively acknowledge the Republican proposal of another terrific deal: President Obama needs to settle on a choice, very quickly, about how to manage proceeding with Republican block. How far would it be a good idea for him to go in pleasing the G.O.P.ââ¬â¢s requests? My answer is, not far by any stretch of the imagination. Mr. Obama should hang extreme, announcing himself willing, if fundamental, to hold his ground even at the expense of letting his adversaries incur harm on a still-precarious economy. What's more, this is certainly no an ideal opportunity to arrange a fabulous deal on the spending that grabs rout from the jaws of triumph.

Proclamation of Educational Goals And Philosophy The idea of understudies is that of a natural capacity to learn. Understudies of ages and all evaluation levels mirror their environmental factors and react as per their translation. Normally it isn't just the impact of a study hall that shapes an understudy yet numerous outside components that decide studentsââ¬â¢ objectives and capacities; for instance, solid consolation from guardians. Understudies may locate a characteristic capacity to act in one region of training and with assistance may adjust their capacity to better their comprehension of different zones. Understudies have a superior comprehension of training when it is applicable to their requirements and regular day to day existence. The idea of information manages two perspectives: that of relative and supreme. From a relative point of view a studentââ¬â¢s information is controlled by their impression of what encompasses them. Information on any sort can move however on the off chance that an understudy doesn't see that information as commendable it may not turn out to be a piece of their instructive arrangement. For example, an understudy in workmanship class may see various works of a positive or negative dependent on their feeling response. Then again, the total information on how a show-stopper is made may join explicit arithmetic and shading plans that are not deciphered by feeling. The joining of relative and total information is the aftereffect of having a fantasy and the information to make it work out as expected. Generally speaking, the reason for government funded training is to give information in a way that all of society may convey and work on a typical level with the plan of increasing the expectations of future social orders. In view of this reason, it is the objective to shape... ...nd enthusiastic requirements of understudies, fusing however much as could reasonably be expected the different other scholarly subjects. My Education 305 class alongside the perception that I finished has assisted with bringing the truth of understudies and the relationship of instructor to-understudy into center. Different systems to keep up discipline inside the study hall have been extremely useful and given me a superior information on age fitting prizes and disciplines. It has likewise introduced to me the most troublesome errand: inspiration. It isn't just the way that I see workmanship yet to see craftsmanship through my understudies eyes and to build up their expertise or absence of into something that they at any rate can appreciate. An instructor isn't an entertainer yet an educator can utilize numerous stunts to keep understudies engaged and persuaded. Starting with the main day until the most recent day it is my objective that each understudy picks up something every day.

Exploring the Welfare System Executive Summary The Department of Public Welfare (DPW) started its assignment collection task by placing a lien on any future cash defrayal stemming from an accident concerning a welfare beneficiary. This was carried out in one of two ways. Initially, at the time an individual submitted an application for welfare. Then, the intake worker at the local welfare office asked whether the reason for asking for aid was because of an accident linked grievance for which a third party was accountable. The status of the Assignment Collections Unit (ACU) of DPW, has just been examined by Nancy Hempstead. Mrs. Hempstead is an energetic manager in an economically hard-pressed state government. Around two months ago, Mrs. Hempstead was able to manage a rare gem, she mentioned. This is extremely different from the many other DPW units. In these units, Mrs. Hempstead was working there for the last five years. ACU was a money maker for the state. They could do this by getting expenses made to welfare beneficiaries who had been involved in misfortunes for which there was a third party reimburser. The instrument was clear-cut. The department needed welfare beneficiaries to authorize an agreement communicating the proceeds of any insurance payment to the state. ACU, then positioned a lien counter to these settlements to recuperate a sum equivalent to cash grants and medical expenditures made by the Department on account of the accident. The financial plan, history, and recruitment of Hempsteadââ¬â¢s office were obvious. Up until late 1981, ACU belonged to the Legal Department of DPW. During this time, local staff attorneys took care of all the caseloads. Throughout December of 1981, Finance Office would take in everything but it would all be done within the central office of DPW. All in acknowledgement of the status of its revenue collection purpose. Now, early in 1986, ACU was supervised with six paralegals, one for each area of the state, one manager and four office workers. For the year of 1986, they were able to collect $2.75 million. Mrs. Hempstead knew that numerous problems affected the company. Even though beneficiaries were lawfully required to give an account of accidents for which DPW could sooner or later earn expenses. Mrs. Hempstead was concerned that many of them did not inform the Department. Therefore, DPW frequently paid extensive medical bills for treatment to welfare beneficiaries who failed to appoint insurance earnings to the state. Mrs. Hempstead was also aware that any recipient, by not notifying DPW of the accident, could settle with an insurance company, keep the entire settlement, and still receive welfare benefits. ACU was uninformed of the degree of this issue. Mrs. Hempstead was concerned about the growing accumulation of active cases. All the remaining caseloads involved those for which payment by insurance companies anticipated conclusion of the ACU discharge procedure. Mrs. Hempstead has desires to create a comprehensive plan for refining program performance. Nevertheless, she was uncertain in regards to how her efforts to reinforce the performance of ACU would be influenced by the current high percentage of staff resignation rate among clerks and paralegals. Out of the six paralegals, three of them had been with the unit less than six months. Also, two of the four clerks, were employed less than two months. During 1985, collections had averaged $2,300 for each case. Purposes of the Case The purpose of this case is to assess the issues going on in the ACLU that is hindering its performances. Once everything is assessed, there needs to be an effective strategy implemented that will help solve these problems within the organizations. Personnel Issues Other purposes of the case involved the personnel. ACU met many serious personnel issues. First, of the six paralegals, three had positions that were permanent, while the other 3 were paid as advisors. Even though all the paralegals had the same tasks, their salaries were not the same. The long-lasting paralegals were the ones that made $180 for each week with paid holidays, vacations, medical insurance and sick days. The consultants were able to come up with $207 for each week and this was without any kind of fringe benefits or free time with recompense. Furthermore, the job grade of all 6 of the paralegals was equal to that of clerks in several other divisions. Management did try to look for permanent slots for all the paralegals and then to elevate their jobs. This had been planned for around a year but it never happened. Thus, the paralegals went ahead and filed a grievance with their union so that they could get their positions raised. Referral Issues Referrals are not getting signed fast enough. Nevertheless, the director of a dissimilar WSO articulated that they understood the meaning of these recommendations and they act on them as soon as possible. This director made the point that they send the referral to the proper social worker who gets in contact the beneficiary on the phone. If the social worker decides that an assignment needs to be signed, then they recommend the recipient to come to the WSO as soon as they can in order to authorize the lien. Then another director at a different place communicated that honestly, their referrals get low priority around at their unit. They tried investigating them, nonetheless, every so often the outcomes were that the beneficiary said there had not been any accident, or that it had been something trivial. Since none of their investigations resulted in tasks, they decided that the social workers should use their time doing other things or with other cases. The data displays that in 1985, 30-40% of all transfers that are sent to the WSOââ¬â¢s did not get returned to ACU before three months were out. About 80%, of those that were returned, showed accidents with no third party legal responsibility. In the other 20% of the occurrences, caseloads were taken on. Unhappy Workers Part of the problem with personnel was that people were not happy. In fact, the tensions were way too high around the problems of the job upgrade. For instance, one paralegal talked about how having some of the paralegals to be long-lasting and some consultants were causing issues around the workplace. They keep making the point they were going to make all the employees permanent. Once they were permanent, then they were going to upgrade the positions. One worker was paid as a consultant, and but they were not happy, the problem was that they were not getting paid for sick days. Workers were running into issues like getting sick on the job, but at the same time, they were not able to stay home without losing pay, so they came to work anyway. Some of those that were consultants did not want to be made permanent, with or without the upgrade. Now, the consultants were all getting paid around $25 more a week than the paralegals that were permanent. The argument was that that cash was more important to them than sick days. If they were going to be made permanent but left at their current job grade, then, they did not want to be a part of it. Those that are the permanent paralegals dislike the idea that the consultants are making more cash and the advisors want paid vacations and sick days. There never seems to be a staff meeting without getting bogged down in this matter. It surely does not make this an easy-going situation to work in. Turnover Issues Outside the position issue was a more systemic dilemma which was the turnover situation. Turnover among the paralegals was increasing at a rapid rate. This increase was because the paralegal location in DPW did not need any kind of experience, a person could stay in ACU. They could do this long enough to get the experience needed to get a job in a firm that was private where the pay was not bad. One of the paralegal made the point that they are constantly told that they are professionals and then but at the same time, only make $9,000 a year. In a private organization, they would make around $12,000 and that was their complaint. Also, in an organization, the paralegal arranges a lot of the work on a case. That includes a lot of preparation: back and forth to court, conferences with clients. They complained that they were chained to their desks from 9-5 with bad pay. They felt that it was important for them to leave at least long enough to take a paper over to an attorneyââ¬â¢s off ice which was down the street. They were not really knocking their job. In one sense, they have the liberty to say no to some of the biggest lawyers in the state, but then again, they are just not looked at as being that important around the company. Case Processing Issues When it came to case processingââ¬â¢s, Mrs. Hempstead discovered that it was too time consuming. The case processing followed three steps which were the following: activation, auditing, and discharge. However, it took too long. For instance, they were taking up about 45 minutes of everyoneââ¬â¢s time just to find five or six dissimilar identification numbers. Every one of the paralegals had a favored way of finding the ID number but it took a lot of time doing it. They usually try to look for the number in the Current file at first. They mentioned that they never use the Master file since there are too many pages in it, and itââ¬â¢s continuously misfiled. They complained that they do not have the time to constantly go through the pages every day. Another employee described her system for getting the numbers and expressed that in her region thereââ¬â¢s an essential phone number where they call and they look up the numbers for them. This helps with the time and frees them up to do other things. A third paralegal mentioned that in their region the WSOââ¬â¢s are very unhelpful with ACU. They keep them on hold for 15 minutes and then just forget about them, or if they leave a message to have them call me back, it takes forever to hear from them. Our huge issue, however, is getting the data back from the WSOââ¬â¢s. It appears that most of them are just taking their time getting the information back to them. The ACU ask them to return the form back before 2 weeks is up, but it would end up taking about a month. ACU was also having problems with the kind of data they send back to them. Most of the times they donââ¬â¢t consist of the whole payment history, so they are not able to get a correct figure to give the lawyer. They have all the data in the WSO, nevertheless it appears that some of them are just not interested in looking it up. Backlog Issues Mrs. Hempstead was able to discover that over the years, an accumulation of active cases grew. This is because cases settled by the insurance company and lawyers most of the time waited 6 months or more for a final release. The busiest paralegals were saying that there was no way they could get caught up. Most of them come in early and then have to stay late. However, they never catch up because they get further and further behind. But itââ¬â¢s not a smooth processthereââ¬â¢s no such thing as an average case. The real issue with this backlog is that the money is out there ready to be gathered, nevertheless there is not any e resources to get it. The element that a case has been started means that the ball is rolling. Equally the insurance company and the attorney are waiting to be told how much they owe ACU. Problems with Management The earlier manager of the unit, Hempsteadââ¬â¢s forerunner, shifted the workload among the Bodington and Plainville paralegals. He took the responsibility of the three main WSOââ¬â¢s in the Bodington area from the Bodington paralegal and allocated them to the paralegal in Plainville. However, this was poor move on behalf of the management. Most of the paralegals do not think that this was a right call in regards to management. havenââ¬â¢t been happy with the transfer and everyone knows it. Most had a light caseload, before the transfers The manager that was before Hempsteadââ¬â¢s was seen as too rigid so when it came to compromise, it was not very effective. He was unwilling to find the middle ground very often or to make significant changes for money due. In-Depth operations analysis It would be wise for Mrs. Hempstead to use an in depth operations analysis which is the study of operational systems with the purpose of looking for chances for improvement. Issue Improving Personnel Issues Provide paralegals with equal pay Paid Holidays and Vacations Make sure that the job grade of all 6 of the paralegals continues to stay equal to that of clerks in several other divisions. Make sure that management find permanent slots for all the paralegals and then to elevate their jobs. Referral Issues Set up effective protocols that will make sure referrals are implemented faster. Make sure that their referrals are getting the priority needed. Employees will spend more time on referrals and less on other activities. Unhappy Workers Make sure that the job upgrades are fair and comfortable for all employees. Some of those that were consultants did not want to be made permanent, with or without the upgrade. The new plan should not enforce them to do this. Turnover Issues Turnover among the paralegals will be decreases by implementing programs that will help with transition of the employees. Paralegals complained that they were chained to their desks from 9-5 with bad pay. With that said, there needs to be better pay salaries to encourage the workers. Case Processing Issues The case processing followed three steps which were the following: activation, auditing, and discharge. However, to improve this, there needs to be less time spent on each step. The Master file needs to be implemented properly. Improve better communication with the WSOââ¬â¢s. Backlog Issues Plant specific individuals that can just focus on the backlogs to get them caught up. Implement different strategies to make sure that employees follow the protocol that implement a new process that would keep them from getting backed up. Problems with Management Undoing the old and ineffective protocol of old management. Implement long and short term objectives that will help ACU. A Cost/Benefit Framework for Assessing the Current Performance Mrs. Hempstead will need to apply the cost/benefit framework. To deal with the problems, she have developed the Cost/Benefit Analysis Framework. This is a general framework for hierarchical cost/benefit analysis intended at offering acceptable assessments for ACU to improve their projects. The framework classifies misappropriation cases into groups of threats for which surveyed risks and financial data are openly existing. Category of Threats Rejection of Service Increasing Sabotage of Data Backlog Issues Unauthorized Access by Insiders Slow service Poor communication with WSO Category of Preventions Provide paralegals with equal pay Make sure that management find permanent slots for all the paralegals and then to elevate their jobs. Employees will spend more time on referrals and less on other activities. Paralegals complained that they were chained to their desks from 9-5 with bad pay. With that said, there needs to be better pay salaries to encourage the workers. Undoing the old and ineffective protocol of old management. Baseline Risk It will cost the company $85,000 to implement the plan Bypass Rate The probability that an attack will penetrate a ACU solution and result in noticeable issues that prevent it from happening. A 100% bypass rate means the security solution does not stop any incidents. In this case it is a 0% bypass rate which means the noticeable issues solution stops the firm from being successful. Residual Risk This is incident risk to the organization if the noticeable solutions are appropriately linked, used, and checked. In this case this would be all the risks because they are all connected. Net Present Value (NPV) Costs Category Details Cost in First Year New Services and cubicles to hire paralegals 650 square feet accessible next door at $18 for every square foot $14,500 Pay raises for the consultants and paralegals Pay raises for both employees $17,000 Hire two more designers new attorneys Salary, as well as benefits Recruitment prices training and Orientation $65,000 $11,350 $5,000 Two additional workstations Furniture and hardware Software licenses $4,000 $2,000 Pay for the Upgrade Two weeks at $7,500 revenue per week $15,000 Total $150,760 Benefits Benefit Benefit Within 12 Months 50 percent income boost $193,000 Permanent paralegals $190 a week and consultants $220 per week with fringe benefits and time off with pay $100,000 10 percent improved productivity per consultant and paralegal($6,500 + $5,750 = $19,250 income for each week with a 10 percent = $1,200/week) $58,500 Improved permanent slots for all the paralegals and then to upgrade their positions $12,000 Total $305,500 What actions should Hempstead take? Mrs. Hempstead needs to make sure she discusses the several problems that are besetting the unit. Even though beneficiaries were rightfully expected to report accidents for which DPW could recoup prices, Mrs. Hempstead was worried that several of them did not inform the Department. With that being said, she should make the following recommendations: Make sure that the DPW is not paying extra paid substantial medical bills for treatment to welfare recipients who failed to assign insurance proceeds to the state. Enforce rules and policies that make sure that others are aware that any recipient, by not notifying DPW of the accident, are still able to settle with an insurance company, while still being able to keep the entire settlement, and yet receive welfare benefits. Mrs. Hempstead needs to make ACU aware of the extent of this problem of paying extra money out that does not need to be. Hempstead also worried about the growing backlog of active cases for which payment by insurance companies awaited completion of the ACU discharge process. With that said, it is recommended that she enforce some policies that keep things from getting piled up. Mrs. Hempstead needs to hire on some extra staff that will help with the areas they are taking too much time on Mrs. Hempstead needs to develop a comprehensive strategy for improving program performance. Mrs. Hempstead needs to implement a strategy between ACU and WSO. Mrs. Hempstead also needs to implement better communication among the management and staff. Mrs. Hempstead needs to come up with new procedure that are for investigating referrals that are differed among some WSOââ¬â¢s. Stereotyping A Phenomenon That Is Instigated Or...
Imagine an AP Mathematics class going on in which all the students are sitting in pairs. In the front middle row, a girl and a boy are sitting together. The boy is wearing a huge pair of black study glasses, an un-ironed dress shirt with khakis and has frizzy hair quite obviously because he has not brushed it. On the other hand, the girl is gorgeous looking with curly strawberry blonde hair, big blue eyes and clearly into fashion which is portrayed by her sensational dressing sense. Now what is the first thing that comes to oneââ¬â¢s mind regarding this scenario? One would automatically think that the boy is presumably smart but the girl probably belongs on the front cover of the VOGUE magazine and not in an AP Math class almost as if it wereâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Therein, this shows that this stereotype is merely a misleading notion and to a great degree an illegitimate claim. However, the fact that it continues to exist is because it has been exploited tremendously by the media by its constant re-occurrence in the entertainment industry in the form of films, videos, series, magazines etc. People consider stereotypes as being time saving devices that allow the human race to classify and generalize people and things into categories in order to make it easier for them to understand. Otherwise, the alternative would be to actually get to know each and every individual which is not only time consuming rather impractical. Just because people make sweeping generalizations about specific groups in which most of the members seem to share common traits or characteristics does not mean that they have any truth to them. Likewise, it is essential to remember the fact that the influential media consisting of mediums such as the entertainment industry, the news industry etc has also played a vital role in indoctrinating the minds of people with views that are considered to be socially acceptable. It is these ideas that form the basis of all stereotypes. Stereotypes do not define a group of people rather it is propaganda and eventually, the human race that are somewhat responsible for causing that certain group of people to define the stereotype

The years leading to civil war were unpleasant for millions of Southern and Northern Americans. While a few basked in wealth and power, a selected population suffered poverty, slavery, and insecurities. A majority experienced social, cultural, and economic differences. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Root Of Civil War" essay for you Create order Political and religious aspects also clashed among colonies and the situation grew profoundly towards civil war. Other than slavery, the Northerners and Southerners had a significant difference in the political arena. Politics was a common agenda that stimulated the economy, drove power, and profoundly affected cultural and religious concepts. During this period, slaves were willing to fight for labor rights while other people sought confrontation due to biased government interferences. Based on Bruce Levineââ¬â¢s book, the Northern and Southern Americans were devoted to their cause in pursuit of political goals. A majority during the antebellum era desired peace in the state as well as better economic times. They also wanted an end to slavery and a new dawn of harmony where color, religios background, or power did not cause chaos (Levine, 2005). The North and South differed in various ways. Historians identify three significant aspects that set both sides apart socially, culturally, economically, politically, and religiously. They include: Slavery In the North, slavery was not as common as in the South. Many elite people within the region grew wealthy from the slave trade, but it was not widespread. The situation in the South was substantial such that when the Northern state abolished slavery between 1774 and 1804, the south side remained adamant. The practice was an economic stepping stone for the area because slaves were essential for running agricultural activities. Politically, both sides disagreed about the oppression aspect such that the Northern side began antislavery movements. The Southern region still maintained the practice in that it became a cultural concept and social divide between the rich and poor. Religious wise, opinions clashed among influential individuals. According to Levine, (2005), some northerners considered slavery repugnant to humanity. George Washington was among those on the forefront against the practice, but some southerners criticized their ideologies. They even tried to prevent the north side from outlawing the importation of African slaves. Protestant clergies created societies aimed at gradually eradicating slavery. Freedom In both regions, freedom was limited, but it was practiced more in the north than the south. While the northerners expressed their rights in the open, southerners whispered in the dark for fear of government confrontation. The latter had significant limitations such that freedom offer came with many restrictions. According to Levines book, the British government of Virginia gave freedom to slaves who supported their movement. In North Carolina, freedom came at a price where masters (slave owners) carried the bargaining chip. Political opinions among poor southerners became disregarded. Economically, the black population lacked trade entitlement. The wealthy considered them handy enough for casual labor such that they had limited time personal and professional development. Regardless, the African-Americans in the south had not freedom for education. The Northern region considered the children of the slaves for fulfilling essential duties. Some slave owners took interest and sponsored their training. Religious groups were diverse before the civil wars and, therefore, both regions embraced the concept. The difference emerged due to political influence. The quakes and Methodists were highly involved in antislavery movements while others cowered. Development Cities in the North were centers of trade while most southerners owned large farms. The former was more socially friendly than the latter due to slavery. Workers lived in poor conditions while the elite accumulated wealth. The north did not have a shortage of large towns compared to the south, and therefore, northerners seemed more politically, economically, and culturally advanced. Increased migration to the north led to massive development in education, culture, and art. However, the cities became dirty and crowded, unlike the south side where plantations were self-sufficient and well-tended. Economic differences between the regions existed due to southerners being agriculturally-based while northerners specialized in manufacturing. The former grew cotton which was traded to the other side for production. Ideally, the Northern and Southern development progress emerged due to manufacturing and agricultural practices respectively. The political expansion was more advanced in the Nort h than South because in the latter, the rich held power and influence against the less privileged. Significant decisions became the elitesââ¬â¢ responsibility while the poor followed suit. Levine (2005) explained the differences above grew more profound in the decade leading to civil war than other periods. People had become tired of the oppression by influential individuals. The North no longer considered slavery an ethical practice. They openly condemned slave owners while the victims gained a voice. During the period, newspapers were becoming popular, and opinions could get printed. Movements began to emerge as the oppressed claimed labor and entitlement rights. Levine quotes Thomas Jefferson in his attempt to express how freedom of expression triggered conflict. He initially failed to publish Notes on The State of Virginia because the article would stir issues (Levine, 2005). He was unwilling to share the material in public because slave abolition appeared impossible despite support from fellow southerners. Suffice to say, both regions became devoted to eradicating various issues. After Jefferson became the president in 1800, the tension between the areas spurred t o new heights. Many slaves gathered at the state capital of Richmond where a few were captured and hanged. The rebels were not deterred from their cause such that they proclaimed ââ¬Å"Death or Libertyâ⬠to show their commitment. While the Northern states granted slaves emancipation gradually, the southerners remained adamant. The tension led to economic differences and the rise of discrimination. The tension between the regions heightened further after validating the constitution officially. The social atmosphere became heavy because the north and south political cooperation was contradicting. Carl Schurz was a political immigrant who observed that the slavery concept rather a struggle between two states rather than the geographic difference. Ideally, the antebellum era had enough tension in the political, social, economic, and social arena to trigger the civil war. Citizens were willing to die than live under oppression. Additionally, many migrated from the south to the north seeking freedo m and a better lifestyle. The root of civil war dates back to the early centuries, and as decades passed, states began to realize ideal ways to coexist. The northern and southern regions had contradicting approaches that caused a rift. As a result, political and economic differences emerged accompanied by social, cultural and religious conflicts. Although slavery was the most significant issue, the political platform triggered more problems than initially intended. Levines book explores both regions history from a different perspective. He covers the antebellum era at large as well.

Designing a Sustainable Solid Waste Collection System in...
Designing a Sustainable Solid Waste Collection System in Morocco Introduction Solid waste management is a matter of great concern in most urban towns in developing countries around the world. The local authorities are responsible for managing municipal solid waste but are in most cases, they are unable to discharge their duties effectively because they lack the capacity to handle the complexities of the process in terms of the design and appropriate systems. Therefore, in the design of a sustainable solid waste collection system, the effectiveness and sustainability of the system must be kept in mind and addressed in the appropriate way which removes any arising issues(Norton et al., 2007). Over the years, there has been rapid increase in the volume and composition of solid waste and hazardous waste. This can be attributed to the huge economic growth, industrialization and urbanization which are becoming a huge problem for local and national governments in terms of ensuring that the solid waste collection system is effective and sustainable. The Moroccan gove rnment has also not been left out in this(Wagner, 2007). The United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP, estimates that the total amount of municipal solid waste in 2006 reached about 2.02 billion tons which represents an annual increase of 7% since the year 2003(United Nations Environmental Programme, 2009). The Abuse of Power in Shakespeares Play, The Tempest...
The play, The Tempest, by William Shakespeare is a very cleverly thought out piece of work. Shakespeare very deliberately inter-relates several different forms of power during the course of the play. There is political power, shown through the plethora of political characters and their schemes, while at the same time parodied by the comic characters. The power of magic and love, and its ability to reunite and absolve also plays a major role in the play. Throughout the play, Prospero, the main character, takes great advantage of his power and authority, both properly and improperly. The epiphany of this however, is realized at the end of the play. Nearly every scene in the play, either intentionally or unintentionally,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦He seeks for control in his nemesis towards his brother Antonio, control of the fate of his daughter Miranda, and the control of his servants Ariel and Caliban. Prospero uses force and debt to have greater authority over the spirit Ariel. When Ariel asks for his freedom and ââ¬Å"liberty,â⬠Prospero brings up the ââ¬Å"damnââ¬â¢d witch Sycoraxâ⬠from whom he saved him (1.2.247-264). Sebastian and Antonio also abuse their powers by plotting an attack on Alonso, the King of Naples, so they could gain even more political power in the real world. Eventually after all the words of encouragement from Antonio, Sebastian finally says, ââ¬Å"Thy case, dear friend, shall be my precedent. As thou gotââ¬â¢st Milan, Iââ¬â¢ll come by Naples. Draw thy sword,â⬠(2.1.270-272). The desire for political power and authority becomes the core from which other minor th emes develop in this play. This improper use of power eventually only harms everyone, not benefit. Magical powers play a tremendous role in supporting Prosperoââ¬â¢s ambitions. Once again, Prospero abuses his magical powers and imbalances the natural elements. The opening scene of Act I begins with a tempest. In this scene, Shakespeare demonstrates that abusing elements, such as water, only creates trouble. When Miranda first speaks to Prospero about the ship wreck, she says ââ¬Å"If by your artâ⬠¦you have/Put the wild waters in this roar, allay them/The sky, it seems, would pour down stinking pitch,â⬠(1.2.1-3). Her father always tried to make their family vacations more exciting, but it NEVER worked out. Youll see. Her mother said, with one of her own little smirks. Now get out of bed!!! With a melodramatic sigh Taryn rolled over the side of the bed and drudged into the bathroom for a shower. She wondered to herself what her mom was up to. It was probably nothing, as usual. Taryn shoved the idea out of her mind and finished her shower and changed. Her dad walked into the hotel room as Taryn was brushing her long brown hair. You ready yet kid? he asked. He had a look on his face like he was up to something. Okay! Tell me what is going on! she shrieked with impatience. Just get in the car and enjoy the ride, he said, the look growing stronger. Her mother was already waiting, doing her makeup in the visor mirror. Taryn received another mischievous glance from her mother as she buckled her seatbelt. They drove for about 15 minutes, looking out at the glistening gulf water. Taryn strained her eyes looking for any dolphins coming to the surface for air. As usual, she had no luck. Taryn sat back with a huff. Im never going to see one up close!! she proclaimed, to no one in particular. What, a dolphin? Im sure youll see one soon, just keep looking, her mother encouraged her. Taryns mother and father exchanged yet another smirk. Here we are! her father announced. Taryn shot up and searched for a sign. Where! Where are we! she frustratingly screamed. They were shaking their heads at her. She was acting like a little kid, but Taryn could care less. This was what she had always wanted to do. About 10 minutes later, after listening to what seemed like an hour long lecture on safety in the tank by a worker of the aquarium, Taryn got to jump into the tank with the graceful creatures. She could feel their smooth, leathery skin brushing up and the whoosh of air coming out of their blowholes. Taryn was in heaven. She was so transfixed on the beautiful dolphins swirling around her that she didnt even hear the worker tell her that time was up. .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9 , .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9 .postImageUrl , .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9 , .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9:hover , .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9:visited , .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9:active { border:0!important; } .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9:active , .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9 .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ue86e7a81b723a78d7e7bbc1fd894d4b9:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Existentialism Essay By Jean Paul SartreTARYN! she heard her father yell. The Commonwealth of Nations - African History
The Commonwealth of Nations - African History What is the Commonwealth of Nations? The Commonwealth of Nations, or more commonly just the Commonwealth, is an association of sovereign states consisting of the United Kingdom, some of its former colonies, and a few special cases. The Commonwealth nations maintain close economic ties, sporting associations and complementary institutions. When was the Commonwealth of Nations Formed? In the early twentieth century, the government of Britain was taking a hard look at its relationship with the rest of the British Empire, and particularly with those colonies populated by Europeans ââ¬â the dominions. The dominions had reached a high level of self-government, and the people there were calling for the creation of sovereign states. Even amongst the Crown Colonies, Protectorates, and Mandates, nationalism (and the call for independence) was on the rise. The British Commonwealth of Nations was first noted in the Statute of Westminster on 3 December 1931, which recognized that several of the United Kingdoms self-governing dominions (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa) were autonomous communities within the British Empire, equal in status, in no way subordinate one to another in any aspect of their domestic or external affairs, though united by a common allegiance to the Crown, and freely associated as members of the British Commonwealth of Nations. What was new under the 1931 Statute of Westminster was that these dominions would now be free to control their own foreign affairs ââ¬â they were already in control of domestic affairs ââ¬â and to have their own diplomatic identity. Which African Countries are Members of the Commonwealth of Nations? There are 19 African states who are currently members of the Commonwealth of Nations. See this Chronological List of African Members of the Commonwealth of Nations, or Alphabetical List of African Members of the Commonwealth of Nations for details. Is it Only ex-British Empire Countries in Africa Who Have Joined the Commonwealth of Nations? No, Cameroon (which had only partially been in the British Empire following World War I) and Mozambique joined in 1995. Mozambique was admitted as a special case (ie could not set a precedent) following democratic elections in the country in 1994. All its neighbors were members and it was felt that Mozambiques support against white-minority rule in South Africa and Rhodesia should be compensated. On the 28th November 2009 Rwanda also joined the Commonwealth, continuing the special case conditions under which Mozambique had joined. What Kind of Membership Exists in the Commonwealth of Nations? The majority of African countries who had been part of the British Empire gained independence within the Commonwealth as Commonwealth Realms. As such, Queen Elizabeth II was automatically the head of state, represented within the country by a Governor-General. Most converted to Commonwealth Republics within a couple of years. (Mauritius took the longest to convert ââ¬â 24 years from 1968 to 1992). Lesotho and Swaziland gained independence as Commonwealth Kingdoms, with their own constitutional monarchy as head of state ââ¬â Queen Elizabeth II was recognized only as the symbolic head of the Commonwealth. Zambia (1964), Botswana (1966), Seychelles (1976), Zimbabwe (1980), and Namibia (1990) became independent as Commonwealth Republics. Cameroon and Mozambique were already republics when they joined the Commonwealth in 1995. Did African Countries Always Join the Commonwealth of Nations? All those African countries still part of the British Empire when the Statute of Westminster was proclaimed in 1931 joined the Commonwealth except for British Somaliland (which joined with Italian Somaliland five days after gaining independence in 1960 to form Somalia), and Anglo-British Sudan (which became a republic in 1956). Egypt, which had been part of the Empire until 1922, has never shown an interest in becoming a member. Do Countries Maintain Membership of the Commonwealth of Nations? No. In 1961 South Africa left the Commonwealth when it declared itself a republic. South Africa rejoined in 1994. Zimbabwe was suspended on 19 March 2002 and decided to leave the Commonwealth on 8 December 2003. What Does the Commonwealth of Nations do for its Members? The Commonwealth is best known for the Commonwealth games which are held once every four years (two years after Olympic games). The Commonwealth also promotes human rights, expects members to meet a set of fundamental democratic principles (curiously enough spelt out in the Harare Commonwealth declaration of 1991, given Zimbabwes subsequent departure form the association), to provide education opportunities, and maintain trade links. Despite its age, the Commonwealth of Nations has survived without needing a written constitution. It depends upon a series of declarations, made at Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings.

Solons Reforms and the Rise of Democracy in Athens
Solons Reforms and the Rise of Democracy in Athens First coming to prominence (c. 600 B.C.) for his patriotic exhortations when Athens was fighting a war against Megara for possession of Salamis, Solon was electedà eponymous archonà in 594/3 B.C. and perhaps, again, about 20 years later. Solon faced the daunting task of improving the condition of: debt-ridden farmerslaborers forced into bondage over debt, andthe middle classes who were excluded from government, while not alienating the increasingly wealthy landowners and aristocracy. Because of his reforming compromises and other legislation, posterity refers to him as Solon the lawgiver.à Such power I gave the people as might do, Abridged not what they had, now lavished new. Those that were great in wealth and high in place, My counsel likewise kept from all disgrace. Before them both I held my shield of might, And let not either touch the others right.- Plutarchs Life of Solon The Great Divide Between Rich and Poor in Athens In the 8th century B.C., rich farmers began exporting their goods: olive oil and wine. Such cash crops required an expensive initial investment. The poorer farmer was more limited in choice of crop, but he still could have continued to eke out a living, if only he had either rotated his crops or let his fields lie fallow. Slavery When land was mortgaged, hektemoroi (stone markers) were placed on the land to show the amount of debt. During the 7th century, these markers proliferated. The poorer wheat farmers lost their land. Laborers were free men who paid out 1/6th of all they produced. In the years of poor harvests, this wasnt enough to survive. To feed themselves and their families, laborers put up their bodies as collateral to borrow from their employers. Exorbitant interest plus living on less than 5/6ths of what was produced made it impossible to repay loans. Free men were being sold into slavery. At the point at which a tyrant or revolt seemed likely, the Athenians appointed Solon to mediate. Relief in the Form of Solon Solon, a lyric poet, and the first Athenian literary figure whose name we know, came from an aristocratic family which traced its ancestry back 10 generations to Hercules, according to Plutarch. Aristocratic beginnings did not prevent him from fearing that someone of his class would try to become tyrant. In his reform measures, he pleased neither the revolutionaries who wanted the land redistributed nor the landowners who wanted to keep all their property intact. Instead, he instituted the seisachtheia by which he canceled all pledges where a mans freedom had been given as guarantee, freed all debtors from bondage, made it illegal to enslave debtors, and put a limit on the amount of land an individual could own. Plutarch records Solons own words about his actions: The mortgage-stones that covered her, by me Removed, the land that was a slave is free;that some who had been seized for their debts he had brought back from other countries, where so far their lot to roam, They had forgot the language of their home;and some he had set at liberty, Who here in shameful servitude were held. More on the Laws of Solon Solons laws do not appear to have been systematic, but provided regulations in the areas of politics, religion, public and private life (including marriage, burial, and the use of springs and wells), civil and criminal life, commerce (including a prohibition on export of all Attic produce except olive oil, although Solon encouraged the export of artisans work), agriculture, sumptuary regulation and discipline. Sickinger estimates there were between 16 and 21 axones that may have contained 36,000 characters total (minimum). These legal records may have been placed in the Boulouterion, Stoa Basileios, and the Acropolis. Although these places would have made them accessible to the public, how many people were literate is not known.à Sources: J.B. Bury. Containment - Essay Example In this regard, the Russianââ¬âAmerican Cold War confrontation started with catastrophic effects. These included as included mass destructions and deaths (Carr 1946). After the end of the World War II, many Americans just wished their lives returned to normal. Consequently, there was a resumption of normal life precipitated by several amendments to the constitutions.Later, the creation of the strategy referred to as the containment life would eventually come resume its normal stature (Wynn 2010). Before the World War the United States of America and the Soviet Union were politically on the same side. Consequently, both countries had survived previous scenarios of unrest which typified their political strength .In contrast, most of the Asian and European territories had been left in ruins. Incidentally though, it was during this very time that the strong relationship between the two superpowers fell into disagreement and consequently leading to the famous cold war. During that time, there were two secretaries of United States; Dean Acheson and George marshal; under the presidency of Harry Truman. They set out to protest and agitate against the spread of communism abroad. It was during this time that the Containment policy was born (Wynn 2010). Differences in political view led to conflict between Hitler and the Grand Alliance (Wynn 2010). Thereafter, American critique adopted in response to Hitlerââ¬â¢s aggression led to persuasion of a more aggressive policy that was directed towards Stalin and the Soviet Union. Incidentally, Kennanre identified this as a domestic weakness since it led the Soviet Union to step up foreign threats in order to increase their. More so, pressure against the governments in Turkey and in Greece by Leftist sympathizers gave Truman the perfect opportunity to implement the new policy and to thereafter convince the Americansof its wisdom. Truman demonstrated that acts of protecting Americans abroad were a

Physical Science - Essay Example Notably, the conclusion of scientific trails usually emphasizes on a given number of trials so that the findings of the investigation are valid, accurate, and applicable to the natural world (Gauch 58). The fundamental scientific method elements include objective, consistent, observable, pertinent, parsimonious, falsifiable, and reproducibility. Falsifiable ââ¬â this is concerned with the fact that the hypothesis should sometimes be proven incorrect using observable data set within the experiment; otherwise, the experiment is never pegged on the research hypothesis fully. Consistent ââ¬â this element requires the use of law of reasoning in formulating the hypotheses and the same should be made consistent with broader and currently understood scientific laws (Murty 43). It is worth noting that it is only in rare cases that the hypothesis within a broader usually turns to be incomplete or incorrect. It is worth noting that effective application of the scientific method elements is significant in eliminating biases, unnecessary complications, and inconsistencies thereby helping in creating an accurate theoretical framework and structure that describe the natural world (Gauch 78). In essence, the scientific method elements usually help in regulating research work and exemplifying the scientific method

Comparing ââ¬ËThe Crucibleââ¬â¢ with ââ¬ËMacbethââ¬â¢ Essay
My practical work in November 2002 was for option 2. it was a piece of scripted performance and was based on the theme of witches and the supernatural.à My contribution to the performance was a character called Marry Warren. I had to help a character called John Proctor; this is because Marry Warren is trying to get out of the group of girls. Marry Warren then betrays John Procter and joins the group of girls again, because of Abigail was making a fool out of Marry Warren. To help me in my work, I looked for information in the video. I also read a play called ââ¬ËMacbethââ¬â¢, written by William Shakespeare.à ââ¬ËMacbethââ¬â¢ was set in Scotland in the 17th centaury. The system of government at the time was that of a monarchy in which the king makes the laws and punishes people. The people would fight for the king. The culture at that time was one is which people believed in witches and the supernatural. Witches were seen as prophets, they were powerful symbols for soldiers. However, ââ¬ËThe Crucibleââ¬â¢ was set in Salem, Massachusetts, USA in the 17th centaury. The system of government at the time was that of theocracy in which people believed in the bible and followed it. Judges were called into decide punishments. Anyone accused of heretical beliefs could be punished. At that time people believed the devil could pass anyone and cause him or her to say or do anything. The genre for ââ¬ËMacbethââ¬â¢ is gothic tragedy. The theme for the play is supernatural, deceiving appearances and prophecy. The supernatural was that the witches are more what we expect, conventional during those times. Sources of information did not shock Macbeth as we expected. The deceiving appearances of witches were the first main incident. The witches were trying to manipulate Macbeth. The prophecy of the play suggests people looking for signs to guide them. On the other hand, the genre for ââ¬ËThe Crucibleââ¬â¢ is a historical fiction melodrama. The theme for ââ¬ËThe Crucibleââ¬â¢ is deception, supernatural and hysteria. The deception in ââ¬ËThe Crucibleââ¬â¢ is that there were no actual witches which added to the hysteria. Supernatural in ââ¬ËThe Crucibleââ¬â¢ was that witches were seen as people working with the devil also the town people are afraid of what witches symbolised. The hysteria in ââ¬ËThe Crucibleââ¬â¢ was once accusations began people feared devil had arrived. This meant their right were ignored in order to find the cause of problem. The performance style for ââ¬ËMacbethââ¬â¢ is partly classical. Macbeth is a war hero yet suddenly loves having powers. Facial expressions and body movement were very important. Elizabethian theatre did not have any dramatic lighting or sound effects. Therefore much of the acting and events are exaggerated.à However, ââ¬ËThe Crucibleââ¬â¢ performance style is classical. As the genre is mellow drama, the acting has to be exaggerated to capture the hysteria. In ââ¬ËThe Crucibleââ¬â¢ Abigail dramatically changes her acting style to meet her needs. Abigail often makes clear how she feels or over exaggerated her movement to make her aim clear.

61% of welfare recipients are white and 33% are black. This sounds backwards, right? This is because when we hear the word welfare we think of the black population (Ebony 55).Welfare is a government financial aid. Many people use it. At first, people thought the idea was amazing. Financial aid eventually started becoming a problem when people began to take advantage of the system. This subject has been and is still very controversial. The system has gone through many reforms to prevent welfare fraud but, a lot of the attempts have failed. Many people want to get rid of it and many donââ¬â¢t. These two groups of people should be led to into independence rather than just given the things th ey need. They should have better opportunities. The government should take more precautious steps to make sure there are not welfare abusers on the system. By taking more precautious steps, the government can help drive the abusers out and the people that actually need help in. Welfare requirements should be stricter. To help eliminate the people on welfare who donââ¬â¢t actually need help, drug testing should be required for welfare recipients. 20% of people on welfare have used drugs in the past year and 5% admit to having a drug addiction. Drug testing will help in two ways. The first way is by getting addicts help and the second way is to help the government stop wasting money on people who donââ¬â¢t need it. Welfare should not be a lifelong dependency because America cannot afford spending money on people who donââ¬â¢t need help (Vitter 1). Drug testing would help the economy because it would help get drug abusers and low income families help. If we limit who gets what in society we will get better results.
